Nice reading your articles and comments on the Boko Haram saga. They make very beautiful reading especially when one considers that you people are writing from your comfort zones and relying more on what is being said or written about the insurgency.
I stay in Maiduguri diocese since last year and am writing from there now. The real stories of the menace are hardly heard outside. We who live here feel d heat every second and know that you people do not get up to 40% of the real gist.
I leave about ten kilometres away from Mubi town and that is where we do our shopping, car repairs or health checks. I was there two days ago and the place was bombed last night.
Boko Haram were in my parish town here in Dec, burnt our local police station, killed everyone they could find around and shouted Allahu Akbar and sped off on their bikes. Our Junior seminary here was attacked recently and burnt down completely with the nearby parish and convent. Not in the news. Many of our parishes here are deserted and closed down. We priests are targeted and none of us sleeps up to three hours at night as we monitor every movement, even of lizards and rats.
It is nice to hear how these stories are reported from Abuja. Staying here reveals a different story all together. It is not just a good information machinery that the government needs, but a sincere effort followed by strong will. Right now what we have is Abuja describing a different issue from what we live and go through everyday. Its hot here.
